Учащиеся 6-х классов готовятся к конференции по прочитанной книге на уроке литературы. Некоторые ребята собираются делать свои презентации на английском языке.
Эрнест Сетон Томпсон является автором книг о животных. Считается, что он канадский писатель, хотя родился и провёл детские годы в Великобритании (в Шотландии), а умер в США. Героями его рассказов - то трогательных, то трагичных - были звери, повадки которых были прекрасно известны, а приключенческие сюжеты будоражили умы юношества, мечтавшего о встречах с индейцами и о жизни на природе. Писатель сам иллюстрировал свои книги и, кроме того, прочел свыше 3 тысяч лекций.
Сетон Томпсон художник-анималист, естествоиспытатель и общественный деятель, один из основателей движения скаутов в США. Поскольку Соединённые Штаты играли в жизни Сетона почти столь же значительную роль, что и Канада, его по праву можно называть как канадским, так и американским писателем британского происхождения.

In 1893 a scientist and hunter Ernest Thompson Seton travelled in New Mexico. He went there to kill a dangerous outlaw (разбойник). The outlaw wasn’t a cowboy or a bandit. The outlaw was a wolf.
People called him simply Lobo. He was a legendary leader of a band of wolves. They terrorized cattle ranches. Lobo was very clever and cunning. He could cheat (обманывать) death, and nobody could catch or kill him.

Seton was a naturalist and a professional animal trapper. He found the wolf and they had a battle (fight). It was a dramatic story. Lobo didn't leave his mate Blanca and was very unhappy when she was killed. He couldn't live without Blanca and died.
Seton Thomston believed that it is bad to kill animals and never did it again. he published books about wild animals. When people read the story about Lobo and Blanca, they decided to preserve and protect nature.

The summer camp
The summer camp I attended was founded by Seton. There they carried on the traditions of the Woodcraft Indians. They had 12 Woodcraft Laws (rules):
1. Be clean, both yourself and the place you live in.
2. Be strong, understand and respect your body.
3. Protect all harmless wildlife, conserve the trees and flowers.
4. Hold your word of honor sacred.
5. Play fair, for foul play is treachery
6. Worship the Great Spirit and respect all worship of him by others.
7. Be brave, for courage is the noblest of all gifts.
8. Respect your elders and otherwise show them deference.
9. Obey. Obedience is the first duty of the Woodcrafter.
10. Be kind. Do at least one act of un-bartered service daily.
11. Be helpful. Do your share of the work.
12. Be joyful. Seek the joys of being alive.
I spent 5 summers there in the mid 1970s and I can still recite them.
